The session will explore the importance of literacy skills to the both children and to the wider community.
Information shared in the session is based on research about the impact of the vocabulary gap and its impact on pupil outcomes and provides some practical teaching strategies to teach tier 2 and 3 vocabularies across the curriculum.
There will be further exploration of the need to teach metacognitive reading strategies explicitly, and methods to do so, and about why we need to make reading the ‘beating heart of the curriculum’.
After exploring this information through discussion and reflection time, a planned gap task will give attendees the time to plan using the new knowledge gained and the teaching strategies shared.
