When the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) were first introduced in 2018, there was a lot of focus in the education sector on ensuring compliance with the new law and implementing policies and procedures that met its requirements.

Now that GDPR has been in force for over two years, the focus has shifted to meeting the practical requirements of on-going compliance and how best to implement those requirements.  Understanding the basics principles of data protection law and knowing how to deal with them (or where to turn for advice) is fundamental for schools and academies, and effective and compliant data protection policies and procedures are crucial aids when making vital decisions, in time-pressured situations.
