The Trent Valley Teaching School Alliance (TVTSA) was formed in 2013 and is a Designated OLEVI Centre of Excellence based at Tuxford Academy – an Ofsted Outstanding, National Teaching School, which is part of the Diverse Academies.

Teaching schools are outstanding schools that work with others to provide high-quality training and development to both new and experienced staff. They are part of the government’s plan to give schools a central role in raising standards by developing a self-improving and sustainable school-led system.

Tuxford Academy has played a leading role in professional development within Nottinghamshire since 2007, when it first became a designated Training School. Now with an extensive alliance of strategic partners, our teaching school has responsibility for leading a ‘self- improving school system’. We also collaborate with a number of other alliances in Nottinghamshire to ensure we can offer a wide range of opportunities to staff in both primary and secondary phases.

TVTSA currently has eight secondary and 32 primary school alliance members – the vast majority of which are rated Good or better by Ofsted.

We pride ourself on our personalised approach. Our alliance schools benefit from a varied range of opportunities, allowing individual schools and academies to tailor to their specific needs. We also welcome new ideas and initiatives, and are always eager to welcome and second new colleagues to our team as advisers, professional tutors or leaders of education.

A teaching school has to:

  • Have an outstanding rating from Ofsted
  • Engage in successful partnerships
  • Show excellent leadership with a proven track record of school improvement
  • Have an outstanding headteacher
  • Have a leadership team with the capacity to lead the six core areas of the teaching school role
